Child Safety

Our Statement of Commitment

Acknowledging our responsibility to God, we commit ourselves to protecting the safety of those children entrusted to our care as students. We believe that by role modelling our core values we will create and maintain an environment where the safety of children is a high priority.

These core values are:

We provide an intentional and innovative learning environmet that equips and empowers our students to flourish in their journeys of growth.

We support the wellbeing of our students by creating a vibrant and inclusive environment that engages, respects and nurtures the unique qualities and potential of each student.

We are a community that cares about belonging and connection, whilst serving and inspiring.

We foster a culture that is respectful, positive and vibrant, and that embraces diversity and inclusion.

We are guided by our Christian faith, as it brings love and hope to our community.

We recognise the importance of stewarding the resources that we have to ensure a sustainable organisation.

We are always reminded by the teaching of Jesus, as recorded in Matthew 18, where He makes clear the value of children to Him, and the seriousness of causing them to stumble. As His followers, we seek to take this teaching seriously.

Matthew 18:1–6 NIV:
At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, ‘Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?’
He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: ‘I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
‘And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.’

At Swan Hill CS, we are committed to complying with all expectations, requirements and legal obligations in relation to child safety, including by complying with relevant Swan Hill CS policies. We have developed a Child Safety and Wellbeing Policy and a Child Safety Code of Conduct that provide all members of our school community with clear guidance in relation to how we aim to fulfil our responsibilities to keep children safe.
